How We Build.

What Built Green Platinum means

The Built Green Platinum Standard.

Built Green Canada is a national non-profit certification program. Platinum is the highest tier —requiring homes to score in the top bracket across energy efficiency, indoor air quality, water conservation, materials, and waste management.

Every certified home is assessed by an independent Energy Advisor and must meet the EnerGuide labelling requirements from Natural Resources Canada.

For you, that means one thing: our green building claims are independently verified. Not self-reported.

The Building Envelop

A tighter envelope means lower bills and quieter rooms.

We build airtight. Meaning the shell of your home is engineered to prevent heat from escaping in winter and entering in summer. Combined with high-performance insulation and quality windows, this reduces your heating and cooling demand before mechanical systems ever turn on. Less energy needed = lower operating costs = smaller footprint.

Energy

Energy

Your home generates its own energy.

Every Symbio home has rooftop solar panels that generate electricity and offset non-renewable energy drawn from the grid. Combined with an all-electric mechanical system, the goal is a home with zero greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI) — meaning it produces no direct carbon emissions during operation.

Water

Materials and Durability

Energy

Water-conscious from roof to ground.

Symbio homes collect rainwater on-site and use permeable landscaping to support natural groundwater recharge — reducing runoff and municipal stormwater load. Water-efficient fixtures reduce consumption inside the home. Pollinator-friendly planting supports local biodiversity without irrigation demand.

Materials and Durability

Materials and Durability

Built to last, not just to look good.

We specify durable, low-toxicity materials that age well in the Sea to Sky climate — reducing the maintenance burden and extending the building's useful life. A longer-lived building means fewer resources consumed over time. Non-toxic finishes mean better indoor air quality from day one.
